If you’ve been looking for a way to personally help Japan after their devastating earthquake and tsunami, you should head down to the W San Diego this Saturday to join in the Earth Hour American Red Cross benefit. Join your favorite media personalities from Sophie 103.7, DiscoverSD, and NBC San Diego while you help raise money for this great cause. Enjoy a candlelit acoustic performance by Southern songstress Ashley Matte and DJ set by Frankie M, while wining and dining in the heart of the Gaslamp.
"Earth Hour" is a global event where people around the world simultaneouly turn off their lights for one hour to encourage reduced energy usage. In San Diego, however, this year's event will also focus on the theme of “global preservation” in honor of the rebuilding of Japan. 100% of the proceeds from all food and beverage sales during Earth Hour (8:30-9:30 p.m.) will be donated directly to The American Red Cross relief efforts in Japan. Living Room Lounge at the W. Saturday, March 26, 7 p.m.

On the heels of Councilman Carl DeMaio's proposed pension plan, San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders and Councilman Kevin Faulconer are touting their own version of a ballot measure to change the pension system.
The proposal would turn the current guaranteed pension system into one similar to a 401(k) plan for new employees other than those working in public safety. The plan would put a cap on both the guaranteed pensions of public safety employees and the city’s required contribution to the system. The cap on the public safety employees’ pension would be at 80 percent of their highest average salary for three consecutive years, while the cap on the city’s contribution would be at $600 million.
