#2. Andy's Barber Shop in the heart of Escondido

Andy's Barber Shop is a one man operation located in the heart of Escondido's downtown area. I have owned the shop since 1992. My gray parrot, named Blackjack, is always ready to greet you outside the door. During my open hours its first come, first served but I'm always glad to come in a little early or stay a little late to accommodate your schedule. I feel that my barber shop captures the essence of a bygone era that's becoming hard to find.

"After going to many of the barbershops on Grand Avenue over my first 15 years after moving to Escondido, I found Andy Granger after an article about the "stock market barber" and how he had just returned from a short sojourn in Idaho. My son and I have been going to Andy's ever since, probably about 13 years now. He gives great service and a great haircut. For many years, due to my crazy schedule, he cut our hair by appointment at 6:30 on a SAT morning. That has somewhat eased for us, but I stlll do most of my haircuts by appointment to save time. Sitting in the shop is a great experience if you just walk in. There is a huge assortment of magazines, great exhibits on the walls, and cold drinks and coffee are always available. Andy still carries the banner as "an old fashioned barber shop". Give Andy a try and you will certainly become a regular customer." -- Bill S.
