15th Anniversary of Heaven's Gate mass suicide at Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. March 26, 1997...
Many of the Heaven’s Gate adherents who were found dead in a Rancho Santa Fe mansion March 26, 1997, had been with the group for most of their adult lives. Their leader was Marshall Applewhite. They were found with their bags packed. Most were neatly laid out on beds, covered with purple shrouds. They wore running shoes and matching uniforms with “Heaven’s Gate Away Team” patches. Each had a $5 bill and quarters in his or her pockets. The Heaven’s Gate group believed that once free of their earthly bodies, they would be whisked by spaceship to a celestial paradise and a “level beyond human.” They associated the Hale-Bopp comet, which could be seen in the sky that winter, with the spacecraft they awaited. They thought it was traveling behind the comet. The Heaven’s Gate cult had existed for more than two decades. Its recruiting drives were followed by periods spent in near hiding. In its final years, its message was spread through the Internet. Here is a timeline of the group’s history. 1972: Marshall Applewhite and Bonnie Nettles, a nurse, meet at a Houston hospital. They set out on a spiritual quest and open a metaphysical bookstore. January 1973: Applewhite and Nettles close their bookstore and set out to find their spiritual mission. February 1973-August 1974: Applewhite and Nettles travel around the country, camping in parks and skipping out on motel-room bills. Aug. 27, 1974: Applewhite and Nettles are arrested in Harlingen, Texas, on charges of credit-card fraud and auto theft. The charges against Nettles are dropped, but Applewhite is extradited to St. Louis and spends six months in jail. March 1975: Applewhite and Nettles go to Ojai. Two of their recruits are a mother and her adult daughter. April 1975: About 80 people meet at a Hollywood Hills home to hear Applewhite and Nettles. Twenty-four people from that meeting agree to meet in Gold Beach, Ore., with Applewhite and Nettles two weeks later. May 5, 1975: The followers meet Applewhite and Nettles in Gold Beach. The leaders now call themselves Bo and Peep. June 1975: Applewhite and Nettles abandon several followers in Sedona, Ariz. Aug. 24, 1975: Applewhite and Nettles make a public appearance at Cañada College in Redwood City. Sept. 14, 1975: The group meets in Waldport, Ore., expecting a spaceship to land. No spaceship shows up, but more than 30 people agree to join the group. The cult gets its first negative publicity over the fiasco. Fall 1975: The group camps at the Colorado National Monument, waiting for a spaceship to pick up the members. April 21, 1976: Nettles announces that the group no longer will hold public meetings. Many people leave the group during the next year. Its numbers drop from about 100 to two dozen. Nettles now calls herself Ti, while Applewhite goes by the name of Do. June 19, 1985: Nettles dies of liver cancer. May 27, 1993: The cult places a one-third-page ad in USA Today and once again begins recruiting members, this time using the Internet to spread its message. June-October 1995: Heaven’s Gate members spend several months living in a compound in a remote New Mexico town. October 1996: After living in several north San Diego County homes the year before, the cult moves into a mansion in Rancho Santa Fe. March 26, 1997: The bodies of 39 cult members are discovered in the mansion. May 1997: The husband of one of the dead cult members kills himself at an Encinitas motel. A member for 20 years, he had left the group in 1994. He had expressed regret that he was not with them when they died. A second former cult member who attempted death with him is revived. February 1998: The second former cult member’s body is found in a tent in the Arizona desert, nine months after he survived the earlier suicide attempt.
Nov. 22, 1999: A county auction of Heaven’s Gate belongings raises $32,707. Some of the money pays for the auction; the rest goes to family members to help cover burial costs. Two former members who had tied up the estate in probate court eventually reach a settlement with the county and pay $2,000 for items of most significance to the cult.

Cardiff Kook Dinosaur Attack - Behind the Scenes as the Pterodactyl Takes Flight @ Cardiff, Calif.
Cardiff Kook Dinosaur Attack - Behind the Scenes from www.KORDUROY.tv on Vimeo. In the early morning hours a knock was heard at the door of Korduroy.tv headquarters. On the doorstep was a note and a hard drive containing video of the Pterodactyl dinosaur installation on the Cardiff Kook. We don’t know why the artist(s) chose us to share the making of this masterpiece with the world, perhaps it is because of our coverage of the last great Kook Attackor the nice video Cy did in 8 hours to try and save the local Yoga Yurt. One thing is for certain, the installation is an amazing display of artistry, teamwork and coordination that must have taken months of planning. The following video tells a tale of fun, glory and the cruel pecking order of life in a Utopian community. Enjoy. BA-AAH!!! HAVE YOU SEEN OUR GOAT? San Diego Crimestoppers $3,000 reward for information...
A $3,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person who put duct tape around the snouts and legs of two goats at Fallbrook High School, leading to the death of one goat. The incident, which occurred about 5 a.m. on June 15, may have been a "senior prank" gone wrong, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. The vandal -- described as 5-foot-11, 180 pounds -- fled when he was discovered by a security guard. The guard removed the duct tape from the goats, but one goat had already died. The goats, kept in a livestock pen, were part of an agricultural project. A necropsy determined that the goat suffocated. Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers, (888) 580-8477, or sheriff's Det. Jim Pucillo, (760) 451-3100. The reward is being offered by Crime Stoppers and San Diego Animal Advocates. Solana Beach Co. Auctioning Rare Pistol Owned by Howard Hughes, Used in 'Hell’s Angels'
Craig Gottlieb Militaria Auctions of Solana Beach is looking at some serious loot when it auctions on Sept. 1 a rare German Luger pistol once owned by aviation pioneer Howard Hughes. The iconic handgun was used in the 1930 epic World War I film Hell’s Angels, which Hughes directed. Gottlieb places a conservative estimate of $50,000 on the gun, and notes that a pistol owned by gangster Al Capone recently sold for almost $110,000 at auction in London. He is no stranger to exotic collectibles, and he recently obtained the desk set that was used by Adolf Hitler to sign the Munich Agreement in 1938, and this set will also be up for auction in September. The gun was used in the final scene of the Hollywood blockbuster that introduced actress Jean Harlow to the silver screen. It was one of the most expensive “talkies” ever produced. It was also notable for introducing the phrase “excuse me while I put on something more comfortable” into the American lexicon. The history of the gun is also unique. It was once owned by Hell’s Angels screenwriter Joseph March, who received the Luger from Hughes as a gift. The written provenance that comes with the Luger is thus excellent. Included with this famous gun is a letter from the screenwriter’s family, including the family member who sold it to a collector in 1992. But, the most compelling provenance is the movie itself.
The letter that accompanies the Luger states that Hughes gave it to March in the 1930s “as a token of appreciation following the film.”
"This is an outstanding example of the 1900 "scoop toggle" American Eagle Luger. This very rare gun was used as a prop in the movie Hell's Angels, a movie produced in 1930, and directed by Howard Hughes. Originally obtained from the estate of the screen-writer who wrote the script, the pistol was given to him by Howard Hughes. The pistol was used in the most compelling scene in the movie, when Roy shoots his brother Monte Rutledge to save the lives of British soldiers. The cry by Monty that "He wants to live" as he beats down the door of their holding cell, the Germans waiting for the shot outside, is the most famous part of the film. In the DVD which accompanies this gun, when you play the scene frame-by-frame, you can very easily make out the slender barrel, scooped-toggle, grip safety, and the "DWM" manufacture on the top of the gun. This, in combination with the letter from the screen-writer's son, provided after his death, locks this gun into the scene. This firearm is in outstanding condition, and is a $6000 to $7000 gun by itself, made more valuable by the association with this pivotal Howard Hughes film." -- Craig Gottlieb Auctions OK, Fried Kool-Aid Balls at Chicken Charlie's, Del Mar Fair, Is Breaking News Across The USA...
The balls look like red donut holes, and while some say they also taste rather like donut holes, other fair attendees seem to like the new junk food. One customer of fried Kool-Aid told Sign on San Diego, "It starts off tart and tangy, and then finishes really sweet... I love this stuff." Boghosian is no stranger to fried candy concoctions. He claims to have invented more than 100 deep-fried treats to serve up at county fairs. In previous years he has created fried fare such as fried Klondike Bars, fried Pop Tarts, and fried Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies. The tangy red dough balls have really taken off, doing much better than Chicken Charlie's previous new products. Over the fair's opening weekend, the food stall quickly went through its first 150 pounds of Kool-Aid powder and 1,500 pounds of flour - though the rest of the ingredients are top secret.
Deep-fried Kool-Aid in its finished form is like a pastry, first sweet and then tangy, according to delighted tasters. The recipe is top secret but it involves a whole lot of Kool-Aid powder, flour, powdered sugar and hot oil. "It's really good, different, but a little more like a doughnut than Kool-Aid," Angelyn Lucia told the North Caroline Times after polishing off a serving of deep-fried cherry Kool-Aid. Another taste described it as a "New Orleans Hushpuppy with Kool-Aid flavor. Boghosian's fried fare has gained him a cult following as well as appearances on the Travel Channel and CNN. He said that his latest invention was a runaway success, outselling his other deep-fried items two to one. "That's because it tastes so darn good," Boghosian said. Fried foods of the sort served up at county and state fairs get the thumbs-down not just from obesity specialists but also cardiologists. The American Heart Association urges people to limit their intake of deep-fried foods, noting that they contain saturated and trans fats that can raise the risk for heart disease by increasing levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol. ARE 'THEY' OUT THERE AND IF SO DID THEY TAKE THEIR UFO'S AROUND CARLSBAD, CALIF. ON MAY 9, 2011 AND APRIL 13, 2010?
The same configuration also appeared in April, 2011.
My brother however did capture about 30 seconds of it on video with his camera. Unfortunately, it also was not a close up view.
I'm looking forward to another light show again soon! It sure would be nice to know what exactly we were looking at!
2nd Report (April 6, 2010). I arrived home from work at approximately 8:45 PM, and had started to change clothing and shoes when at approximately 8:50 PM, I heard my wife and her brother speaking quite loudly about what they were seeing in the sky. I quickly went into my backyard and clearly saw what they were talking about. My home is located in Carlsbad, CA and our backyard has a clear, unrestricted view from southwest to northeast. I was startled at first, then settled down and basically enjoyed the view. Here is what I saw: Initially there were 4 objects, very bright in the low sky. Judging the distance was difficult, but my assumption was that these objects were north/northwest in the direction of Camp Pendleton. The objects were extremely bright, mostly "gold" or "bright amber" in color. The objects were stacked two over two and seemed to be in a pretty tight formation, but there definitely appeared to be some spacing between them. The objects seemed to be moving very slowly or hardly at all - it may have been that they seemed to be moving only because of the brightness of the light. After about two minutes, two of the four objects "disappeared" and the other two remained. The shape of each of the items seemed to be cone-like, or maybe to be more precise they were condensed versions of a "bell." The remaining items stayed in place for a short time and then they also disappeared in a flash. One of the things that I found striking was the fact that there was a good deal of air traffic at this time from the very nearby Palomar Airport. A number of small planes stayed in the air while I was observing these golden objects. Rather than continuing to land as would normally be the case, it appeared that pilots were staying in the air. In addition, I could see several helicopters also hovering. This is highly unusual, since Palomar is a very small airport and gets a minimum of takeoffs and landings. My wife, brother-in-law, stepdaughter, and myself spent the next hour or so talking about what we had seen and to a large extent we all had pretty much the same reactions and observations. At first I must admit I was somewhat scared, but overall that feeling subsided and turned to curiosity. I would have run inside the house to get a camera, but didn't want to miss a moment of this awesome sight. I have always had a very, very skeptical view of the notion of UFOs and the people who report their existence, but after this experience I might be changed forever on the topic. January 2011 Happy New Year January 4th - Solar Eclipse - The Planet is arriving in the Mayan tradition, that speaks to the end of a 14 billion evolutionary cycle, which ushers in a revolutionary consciousness. We begin with Jupiter and Uranus conjunct in Pisces. The last time we experienced this combination was back to 1934. This is a time known for the great repression. We won’t see the like of this combination until 2093. On this day, the Sun and Moon are going to have a square with the old symbol of time, Saturn. Culture is going to be on trial by the cheesiest political inertia that occurs. This is a time for revelations with agreements that you have made and see if the lay of the land warrants a change with past agreements? “To thine own self be true” for there is no other place to be! Which answers the question, “Or not to be?”
January 19th - The Full Moon - Commitment to what you want, is how you, become who you are? Feelings are a special expression of the thinking and of the mind. The Cancer Moon is highlighting your emotions and is the time to contact your inner thoughts. Use the power and flow of a vibrationally wave, which is hitting the universe now and for some time to come. The evolutionary process is occurring with the Universe per se. We are ripples of light fading into space. I recognize that now is the only point of reference to see and experience the wholeality of totality as a singularity. Let the inner shadow of your light, shine bright for the night sky of your thoughts. January 25th, Saturn is stationed and goes retrograde, and once again we are asked the question, are you fulfilling your destiny?
The Twelve Signs of the Zodiac Planets in Transit
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19) Some of you are feeling the major revolution that is delivered with Pluto in Capricorn, which is visiting for the first time in 248 years. If you were born December 22, through December 31, then you are feeling the most significant change in your life and will continue until April or so until 2012. Some of you have already been experiencing the change, and the rest is starting to feel the shift. Remember, it's not a bad thing, it's about growth and change. There is nothing to be afraid of when it comes to being alive. Capricorn you can be one of the most amazing individuals. Understand, that you are hard on yourself. Stop sabotaging yourself and start to be your best friend. Let go of the past and stay in the present to receive the gift that is available and all you have to do is stop doing. Listen with you inner-most voice and don’t be afraid to listen nor to act on what you hear? The planet Mars is in Capricorn if you were born between Jan. 8 to 15 then you have Mars providing you the energy you want and need. Avoid difficult people, including yourself? It's around January 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, there is a shift of energy at the beginning of this New Year with attitude, hence live life with appreciation and gratitude for the best results.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb 18) If you were born Feb. 14 to Feb. 22 then Neptune is going to throw up a smoke screen of illusion. It would be best to wait on any important decisions that need a time, when life provides you clarity and not confusion. The rest of you Aquarians may want to pay attention to your work environment. Change hat has taken place, can still have the opportunity to shift and change again. Keep in mind that you are the one who chooses to do the things you commit yourself to do? A good month to organize any areas of your life, that needs a Feng a treatment. All choices come down to yes, and no, or you can change it to yes, and know, or know that one choice is in harmony with what is and the other choice is going to create challenges for you. However, you always, for the most part, accomplish all that you seek. If not then you adapt and move forward anyway. To be or to see is the same as to do what your essence guides you to do? Ideas are going to inspire you this month, and careful evaluations for what you want in a mate is different as what you do on a date? Meditation would be helpful! Contemplation would be good. Silence is the voice of the unknown, known!
PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20) This is an amazing time to be from the waters of Pisces. If you were born between March 12th through March 20th, this is an exciting time for you, especially, from January 1st to January 15th. You can experience expansion in any part of your life. You can expect the unexpected as life, changes in a moment and that moment is always now and present waiting to be revealed as the greatest gift ever! Change is the heart beat of the universe and with the flow and ebb of creation itself, you are in a rare sweet spot for growth, perhaps not as you wish it to be, but as it needs to be! As Hamlet says, “nothing is neither good nor bad, thinking makes it so”. This is one of the more profound ideas that may bring you a new way of viewing your words and the words you choose to be utter, create the world you live! Next year in the beginning of 2012, you will have Neptune entering your sign for the first time in your life. This too shall bring you new powers of intuition and awareness. However, learn now, if you haven’t done so, that you are the source of the God head you represent. Live your life the way you want and don’t let anyone, including me tell you what you already know?
ARIES (March 21-April 19) This coming year is a time for expansion and fortune to smile on your intent, but the key for t this year is to put it out there. Go for what you want and let life unfold to your destiny. New beginnings are marked has a distinct possibility for Venus is in Sagittarius and romance is highlighted for your consideration. Relationships are being supported with an accent from Saturn being a supportive element. Career issues are on the top of your agenda, and it would be wise to focus on work for the best results for this year you can make a positive change. This is time for paying attention to your intuition and make sure you listen or what a waste for you not to take advantage of this support for your greater awareness. You are entering in the next few years one of the more interesting seven years you will have experienced up until this time in your life. By meditating and use your insight with intent, you can accomplish all that you set out to do. Look at the structure in your patterns and tweak here or there, and you see, that the smaller the adjustment the greater the change. Work is an area that could use some revision.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20) Shed the clique’s and be your genuine self. Work and health is areas that may need your attention, if you're eating well, and paying attention to your exercise patterns pay off in great dividends. Romance is highlighted as Venus spends some time with your eighth house of sex, and money. Passion can erupt as if a thundered and lightening where in a discussion. O, what a difference a life can make. Opportunity for education may be pulling on hyoid as you consider taking a plunge into academia. Maybe not all of you, but certainly if you were born April 2 through the 8th, there is greater chance that you also, take a trip or at least plan on one. Relationships are going to be expansive and informative. Receive inspiration, as appreciation for the hard work that transforms light into awareness. The subconscious has a way of bringing into the fore front all that has to be revealed, but first you must reveal what is hidden. This is not an easy task for to do so you have to let go of pride, which is the corner stone of your sticking to your guns in a stubborn manner. You can't grow from that point of view. Flexibility is the key for your success, and that is not money, but what you choose to do every day?
GEMINI (May 21-June 21) Relationships, transformation, travel, career and romance are on the menu for you this month, as the new year starts out with a major focus on what do you want? How are you going to get what you want? The idea of understanding that it's not what you do, as its more important to do something. You may meet someone who you want to date, but is not available due to the fact. However, they are in a relationship already. Everything that happens to you is for your own good. Be patient, grasshopper, because there is more in heaven and earth than is dreamt in a life time. To your own awareness be true as sure as the day is here for you to explore. Some of you are going to get that job you have hoped for and some of you are going to change jobs for a better group of people to work with. Whatever happens it's always for your growth. Some of you are going to have a close relative pass away this year. A focus on doing is going to bring you happiness, which brings you health, is a good approach for this new cycle in life, that you find yourself in. Keep your extremes to a minimum and attempting to control anything is futile, and not in your best interest.
CANCER (June 22-July 22) This month there is a focus on your home. Saturn in Libra is visiting your fourth house. Therefore, the focus is on an organization of your home getting your life back into an order. For some of you, it has been a difficult time when it comes to marriage and partnerships. The whole idea of relationships is in a major overhaul, and it has taken you by surprise, or you saw it coming either way you have to deal with it. If you have not gone back to school or have thought about taking classes, I encourage you, because you are being supported. The mythological lessons that are being presented to you allow you to discover your true identity, and you are blessed indeed. Even though sometimes you approach problems sideways you have a gift for providing what is necessary when it comes to what is important. Family relationships' people this is what life is about, but you have always known that truth. Jupiter and the planet you’re on us park and jump to one another in Pisces allow your intuition and inspiration to bring you valuable information. This is the beginning of you starting to pay attention to your career choices foreign occupation. It is important to have a way of making a living where you rely on yourself.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22) As the year begins Saturn is moving through your third house of communication, and you must pay attention to the limits and the possibilities that limits provide. Venus is moving into your fifth house of romance if you are in a relationship than this is a time for intimacy and growth for that relationship. If you’re single and available than this as an opportunity to meet that special someone who could really bring you a new view of the world. Health and work are two areas that you must pay attention to you must have already the past several years experience to change with your health and your work situation. This is because Pluto is in your sixth house and will be there for some time. Therefore, it is imperative that you start to pay attention to the more important aspects of being alive your health and your occupation. After many years, you are finally coming to the realization how powerful your ability to project can be, but it’s not always for your benefit. It is better to see the universe as it is then to pretend that it is something that it is not, which include yourself. You are going through a period of growth and adjustment concerning your ego and the importance of how to use it and when to let it go!
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22) The new year brings you Saturn in your second house of money property and resources. It is a time to be cautious when it comes to expenditures and acquiring things that you possibly do not need. Your relationship to money and property is also an area to examine. You may find some connections that could be revealing on how to approach your years to come? Someone from the past may visit you, and it will be a pleasant re-acquaintance with someone you have been out of touch with. Circumstances concerning family members may come forward, and you may find yourself helping and supporting those who are in need. There is a positive expansion concerning relationships partnerships and potential marriage if you’re not already in a relationship and this is a great time to solidify a spiritual connection, which is deep within. Letting go of judgments that are just opinions with top hats would be in your best interest. This year you will find an expansion when it comes to income, but it might not arrive when you expect it. However, what is important is that it arrives. There could be some expenses this coming year that you could not have anticipated, hence, save your money now. Diet exercise and good sleep are fundamental to a happy life.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23) September of 2010 is when Saturn entered your first house in around 30 years. Ever since this has happened there’s been a major focus on your relationships in your life personal and career wise. If you love what you do this is a great opportunity for you to grow and solidify your situation. If you’re dissatisfied with your lot in life then you must make a change or your suffering will continue. The choice is simple you can either grow towards the light, or you can avoid the light it’s your choice, choose wisely. Communication with family member's brothers relatives in general are highlighted for you as the new year brings you challenges and opportunities. The area of work, and health are going to have an impact on your life and there is a major focus concerning these two areas. The support that you’re going to get this year is Jupiter moving into your seventh house of marriage and partnerships. Even though you may be struggling in a relationship the outcome is most positive to resolve whatever issues you think to exist within the fact they probably cannot exist and that is a wonderful new awareness that brings joy and contentment to the heart. Your life is what you make it so why would you live the life whom you would want instead of living a life whom you regret.
SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21) The New Year brings, a lot of information from the subconscious to remind you to pay attention for illumination. Take time to reevaluate the past, so you can decide what you would like to pursue? Communication, is the key, whether it’s to write a book or to attend school and take classes. Perhaps, to pursue poetry, that you never wrote? Even though you have been dating over the last several years, you find yourself finding someone who you want to develop a long-term relationship. Often your relationships have nothing to do with your partner, but it has more to do with your insecurity. If you can learn to distinguish the difference between what you want versus how you sabotage yourself, then you have something of great value. To find your destiny in the future it would be wise to let go of the past and stay present and live as if it were your future, now, which it is. You’re being supported with Capricorn. Use this time, to reevaluate the order that you bring to your life. Some of you are moving this year, so be aware of any long-term commitments that you want to make? Transformation is an unusual home, and in some ways it fulfills you, you need to express the essence of what you work with.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21) Decision very interesting time for Sagittarius because most of your planets are below the surface of your chart the only major planet above the horizon is Saturn. This is demonstrating to you the importance of how your external world is created by your internal condition. Friendships and relationships are strongly highlighted as well if family members are going to have an impact on what you’re going to experience this year. The area of money is of concern at this time and may well carry into several years into the future. All the more reason to be cautious with your expenditures and pay attention to what you truly need versus what you just want to buy? Moving this year is going to happen for many Sagittarius, and several others are going to consider changing their careers or professions. Change is a component for Sagittarius as relationships and in overhaul for where you have been where you want to go and where you are taking place for your own good. Some of you will move towards the ocean or near Lake but water is going to be an important factor for most Sagittarius this year. This has to do with the fact that Neptune will be leaving Aquarius and going into Pisces in the coming years and this is going to have an impact on you especially concerning your intuition. It will be getting more sensitive, and you must learn to listen to acquire the benefits that come with such an awareness. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Recent Rains Beg the Question: Hodgee, the Friendly Lake Hodges Monster: Fact or Fiction? (Editor's Note: Large-scale rain events such as December's La Nina bring strange side effects to the Del Dios Gorge. Namely, more sightings of the alleged Lake Hodges, or Hodgee, Monster, a distant cousin of the more well-known Loch Ness Monster.) Go down Hernandez Hideaway on rural Lake Drive at Del Dios and people will swear up and down the tavern's long wooden bar that Hodgee, the friendly Lake Hodges monster, really, truly - well, almost definitely exists."The Lake Hodges Hodgee monster is kind of like the Loch Ness monster," said Stanley Smith, a long-time Del Dios resident. Smith, a cowboy poet and man about town, lives near the top of the hill overlooking the scenic 1,234-acre city of San Diego reservoir which was completed in 1918.
Although Smith was quick to add that "maybe the people were a little liquored up," he wasn't the only one around the venerable country-western venue to say a Hodgee monster was more than mere rural myth or product of some overactive imaginations. "Not a day goes by they don't talk about the Hodgee monster," said Mickey Basulka, a seven-year Del Dios resident and country store patron. The bartender who identified himself only as Mikey V., added: "They even used to have a Hodgee sandwich here when we were open for breakfast in the morning. They say there's a giant catfish, or something, out there." Hodgee's fame has spread near and quite far. In fact, a mysterious Webmaster purporting to be a representative of the Lake Hodges Scientific Research Center ( a seemingly fictional organization) has created a detailed Internet site giving a seven-page history of the monster dating back to 7000 B.C. as well as extensive documentation of the monster including photographs of it said to be taken in 1932, 1941 and 1958.
"The LHSRC is a not-for-profit research organization that is dedicated to learning more about the unexplained phenomena related to Lake Hodges," the site says. "In particular, we are focused on the so-called 'Lake Hodges Monster,' known locally as Hodgee."
Hodgee.com says The monster dates back to a "river creature" of Indian lore that was said to be in the San Dieguito River that was dammed and used to create the Lake Hodges Reservoir. "Researchers (in 1929) found no conclusive evidence of any sort although one assistant did report seeing a '...lizard-like...head...' protruding from the surface...'
"An anonymous statement written on city of San Diego letterhead stated that officials were attempting to kill any creature in the lake ---- including the monster," the site says. Actually, officials did stage an early 1956 fish kill at the reservoir but news accounts at the time said the effort was made to kill invasive carp and allow the lake to be re-stocked with bass. A final picture on the hodgee.com Web site dated 1999 showed two men with mechanical equipment at the lake. "LSHRC researchers using sophisticated equipment trying to detect Hodgee," the caption reads. The Hodgee mystery, however, extends to the Hodgee Web site. The site is registered to Corey Krell of Apex. N.C. He has an unlisted telephone number and did not respond to numerous e-mail requests for an interview. Krell is unknown to the residents of Del Dios although Pete Ayotte, manager of Hernandez Hideaway, another Del Dios institution down the road from the country store, said he had seen the Web site. "It's pretty neat, interesting," Ayotte said. Sitting at Hernandez Hideaway's classy bar, Dave Bark's ears perked up when he heard mention of Hodgee, the Lake Hodges monster. A former denizen of Haight-Ashbury in the 1960s and Del Dios resident since 1969, Bark nodded knowingly at the image.
But how did this Hodgee thing all start? Bark recalled first hearing about Hodgee through the long-time Del Dios newsletter "As the Dam Drips," that he said was "a one-sheet thing and all it was rumors and innuendoes." The newsletter, which no longer circulates, was passed out in the 1970s around the unincorporated community along the north edge of the lake. Morgan A. "Matt" Tidwell, retired Lake Hodges reservoir keeper, also mentioned the newslettter as the originator of the Hodgee story. After "As the Dam Drips" broke the Hodgee story sometime in the mid-to-late 1970s, a television reporter went out to the dam and spoke with him about Hodgee's authenticity, Tidwell said. Then, the real Hodgee magic ensued. "It all started at the Del Dios Store when someone put out a joke newspaper," said Tidwell, reservoir keeper since 1972 through his retirement in 1984. "It had a spoof monster that sure looked like a Loch Ness monster east of the freeway and it was the Hodgee monster. "A reporter from Channel 8 News came up on the top of the dam," Tidwell continued. "We had a diesel engine pumping air into the lake. These bubbles were coming up. She asked me what this was and I said this is where Hodgee, the monster, sleeps. "Another reporter from the station came out to do the story and asked me what the monster ate," Tidwell said. "I told him the ranchers were a little upset because he ate a steer, or heifer, once in a while up there and then came back for a bale of hay for a salad." So hatched a legend, seemingly Hodgee became so popular that, as Mickey V. said, a breakfast sandwich was named after it. A friend of Tidwell's who was an Escondido ceramics instructor made a clay sculpture of Hodgee that Tidwell still keeps. In fact, Tidwell brought the Hodgee replica back to the scene of the myth, the Del Dios Store last week, for a photo opportunity. What's more, the legend grew. Several print articles in the 1980s referred to Tidwell's earlier confirmation of the Hodgee legend on television. "First there were tell-tale bubbles in the water, as if some creature were surviving in the depths of the lake," North County Panorama said in January, 1985. "Then came the tales of mysterious disappearances of cattle and bales of hay being snatched from passing farm trucks. Tidwell confirmed everyone's unspoken fears with straight-faced accounts on local television newscasts of a Loch Ness-style monster paddling around Lake Hodges." Standing tall near the reservoir he once managed with Hodgee, the clay monster replica statue in tow, Tidwell again stood straight faced before dissolving into a sly smile.
It's an especially good story when facts aren't allowed to get in the way, Del Dios residents said last week. Walking her beagle Samson near the store shortly after Tidwell's departure, Linda Hull, a newcomer to Del Dios, faithfully repeated what locals had told her of Hodgee, the friendly Lake Hodges monster. "I've heard of it and I would love to know more," Hull said. "They say that there's a Loch Ness monster there that lives in the bottom of the lake. "I believe them," Hull said. "But, then again, I believe in the tooth fairy." Perhaps speaking for many in Del Dios and North County, Hull added: "With everything else going on in the world these days, why not believe in Hodgee?" Del Mar Fairgrounds Ghostbusters Going Public with Results This Month
The damn place may be haunted. Or that's where some of your 22nd District Agricultural Association efforts are going to this month. They agreed to allow some local Ghostbusters to investigate whether "The truth is out there," as they used to say on 'X-Files'. David Walters of South Coast Paranormal -- "Putting the 'normal' back in paranormal," according to his web site -- said he plans to reveal in the next two weeks the outcome of a July investigation at the hallowed hall. The project is gratis, presumably minus the publicity for the group. Reports of strange sights and sounds well past the witching hour have haunted the facility that Bing Crosby and Jimmy Durante helped build for decades. "I worked in the Grandstand for over six years and there were many times strange things would happen," said a former seasonal worker. "Lights flickering, doors opening and closing (and locking), cold spots, our names being called etc. I never actually saw a figure but just about everything else. Nothing menacing, a trickster at worst. I'm kinda glad to know other people have seen things there too." Why the six-month delay? Hours and hours of videotape the "team" had to sift through to determine what in heaven's name is going on round there, according to Fairgrounds officials. To view some raw footage from July follow this link: http://www.scparanormal.com/evidence/delmar/shadow2.mp4 "This was caught at our first investigation of the Del Mar Fairgrounds/Grandstand investigation in the Pub on the ground level. We can not figure out what the cause of this shadow could have been." Walters said. Walters, and fellow Ghostbusters, conducted three sorties into the race track grandstand's -- ooh, scary -- 2nd and 5th floors. A well-trafficked night club once haunted the upper space and a pub now occupies the lower floor. Fairground officials have not commented on what they planned to do should the facility be deemed haunted.

For more on the Del Mar Fairgrounds visit http://www.sdfair.com/ Dead birds falling from the Rancho Santa Fe skies? Nope, Audubon just counts live ones... (Photo: Sandhill Cranes, locals were on the lookout for a few more winter visitors on Jan. 3) Following this weekend's annual bird count at Chino Farm and surrounding Rancho Santa Fe areas, the San Diego Chapter of the Audubon Society is making its list and checking it more than twice. About 70 Rancho Santa Fe bird counters on Jan. 3 spread across a 15-mile radius from Torrey Pines and Cardiff to Lake Hodges and Miramar Reservoir. The 2009 count revealed 193 species among 36,573 birds counted. Volunteers across the country, and the county, gather together from Christmas through January to count birds on behalf of the Audubon Society. The practice dates to the late 1800s. The local count dates to 1953. It occurs in six parts of the county — San Diego, Anza-Borrego, Lake Henshaw, Rancho Santa Fe, Oceanside and Escondido — on different days during the holidays. Volunteers work inside the 15-mile-diameter circle.
“At the time of the founding of the Audubon Society, there was a tradition to go out and shoot birds on Christmas Day,” said Phil Unitt, curator of the Department of Birds and Mammals at the San Diego Natural History Museum. “The Audubon Society was trying to draw public attention to the carnage. So the ideas was to go out and count birds instead of shooting them.” (Photo: Worm-eating warblers are rare around San Diego County, but local bird watchers expected to see a few last weekend.)
Species doing the best these days are urban adapters, said Unitt. Birds sensitive to habitat fragmentation are dwindling. The San Diego circle set a record low this season for sightings of the California quail at two birds. In 1980, 202 quails were counted. Christmas Bird CountPreliminary results for the 2010 San Diego Circle: "Today's total of 219 species on the San Diego Christmas bird count, if it holds, is the second highest in the count's 58-year history, exceeded only by 222 species in 1969. The Swainson's Hawk photographed today by Matt Brady and Oscar Johnson makes 360 species ever recorded on the San Diego CBC (4 obviously misidentified species reported long ago excluded). The Thick-billed Kingbird was recorded on one previous count, at Glen Abbey Cemetery in 1966. The Broad-billed Hummingbird was recorded 4 times previously, in 1979, 1980, 1982, and 1985. Thanks again to everyone for a great count! " Posted by Phil Unitt on SDBirds, 12/19/10
The 2009 CBC event totaled 205 observed species in the San Diego Circle. Twenty four species were observed at their record CBC highs including the Greater Scaup (264), Osprey (44), Anna's Hummingbird (1131), Black Phoebe (506), Say's Phoebe (152), Black-headed Grosbeak (4), and Bullock's Oriole (20) . The most abundant bird this year was the Surf Scoter with 7613 observed. The American Crow total was 5581. The European Starling total of 964 was the second lowest for the count since 1965. Other low counts were tallied for the California Quail (14), Cactus Wren (1) and Loggerhead Shrike (1). To view the complete results of past years' counts on the National Audubon websiteclick here. To make a table of all findings and to see a list of participants use the follow the steps as guided there. Under Step 1 Option C: Count code, enter CASD for the San Diego count circle and click.

Now let’s just say for example you had a job and you boss paid you, you used that money to buy something, the person you bought it from bought something, and that person just randomly bought something from your boss, then your boss later used that money to pay you again at another time. On the surface it would look like you had received more/different money than before, but in actuality it is the same money that has just been circulated again, and unless wealth to account for that money then there has been no increase/change. It is the same with taxes A country could call itself raising taxes to "pay for" a program, but raising taxes will not make there just be more money money in the country’s infastructure or increas it’s net worth. This is what leads to the type of inflation that has been plaguing the United States for decades.

Which is the best private bank in india to open an NRI account in? Citi Bank and ICICI are good, Kotak Mahindra too is not all that bad, but have you considered a Nationalised Bank? They are pretty impressive and for a NRI they would bend over backwards. The problem with a private bank is their charges and turn around. You are but a bunch of numbers for them and at the end of it all by the time you complete your term with them you will find that the value you paid is far too high a price for what you get in return! With all that HSBC and Citi would be really great partners for NRI accounts and they do treat their customers with a lot of professionalism. Hope this helps in some way!

What is the wealthiest residential district of Paris itself, and which is it’s poshest suburb? Where in and around Paris would you find it’s oldest money? Which area when mentioned, imediately would make a native Parisian think of enormous wealth....I agree with the first two answers. Other wealthy arrondissements: the 7th, the 8th… as a general rule, those closes to the geographic center of the city are the wealthiest (the 16th being an obvious exception), and suburbs west and south of Paris tend to be posher than those to the north and east.
