15th Anniversary of Heaven's Gate mass suicide at Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. March 26, 1997...

Views of Heaven's Gate:An Oral History

The largest mass suicide in U.S. history took place at a rented mansion off Camino Del Norte in March 1997. Presented here is a graphic -- viewer discretion advised -- video detailing the incident.

Following the video is a timeline of the cult's activity and it's 1997 news release detailing its plans.

Then, we present two "exit" videos -- the group made about 15 -- with members explaining their mind-sets and some of the particulars of their behaviors.

The final video presented here is one of leader Marshal Applewhite's numerous indoctrination videos.

For more information, follow the video links to additional presentations on several video sites.

This is presented in the interest of providing a partial oral historical record of one of the most disturbing chapters in recent American history as well as partially detailing the most spectacular, and disturbing, event in Rancho Santa Fe history.

Again, viewer discretion advised...

Heaven’s Gate: A timeline

Many of the Heaven’s Gate adherents who were found dead in a Rancho Santa Fe mansion March 26, 1997, had been with the group for most of their adult lives. Their leader was Marshall Applewhite.

They were found with their bags packed. Most were neatly laid out on beds, covered with purple shrouds. They wore running shoes and matching uniforms with “Heaven’s Gate Away Team” patches. Each had a $5 bill and quarters in his or her pockets.

The Heaven’s Gate group believed that once free of their earthly bodies, they would be whisked by spaceship to a celestial paradise and a “level beyond human.” They associated the Hale-Bopp comet, which could be seen in the sky that winter, with the spacecraft they awaited. They thought it was traveling behind the comet.

The Heaven’s Gate cult had existed for more than two decades. Its recruiting drives were followed by periods spent in near hiding. In its final years, its message was spread through the Internet. Here is a timeline of the group’s history.

1972: Marshall Applewhite and Bonnie Nettles, a nurse, meet at a Houston hospital. They set out on a spiritual quest and open a metaphysical bookstore.

January 1973: Applewhite and Nettles close their bookstore and set out to find their spiritual mission.

February 1973-August 1974: Applewhite and Nettles travel around the country, camping in parks and skipping out on motel-room bills.

Aug. 27, 1974: Applewhite and Nettles are arrested in Harlingen, Texas, on charges of credit-card fraud and auto theft. The charges against Nettles are dropped, but Applewhite is extradited to St. Louis and spends six months in jail.

March 1975: Applewhite and Nettles go to Ojai. Two of their recruits are a mother and her adult daughter.

April 1975: About 80 people meet at a Hollywood Hills home to hear Applewhite and Nettles. Twenty-four people from that meeting agree to meet in Gold Beach, Ore., with Applewhite and Nettles two weeks later.

May 5, 1975: The followers meet Applewhite and Nettles in Gold Beach. The leaders now call themselves Bo and Peep.

June 1975: Applewhite and Nettles abandon several followers in Sedona, Ariz.

Aug. 24, 1975: Applewhite and Nettles make a public appearance at Cañada College in Redwood City.

Sept. 14, 1975: The group meets in Waldport, Ore., expecting a spaceship to land. No spaceship shows up, but more than 30 people agree to join the group. The cult gets its first negative publicity over the fiasco.

Fall 1975: The group camps at the Colorado National Monument, waiting for a spaceship to pick up the members.

April 21, 1976: Nettles announces that the group no longer will hold public meetings. Many people leave the group during the next year. Its numbers drop from about 100 to two dozen. Nettles now calls herself Ti, while Applewhite goes by the name of Do.

June 19, 1985: Nettles dies of liver cancer.

May 27, 1993: The cult places a one-third-page ad in USA Today and once again begins recruiting members, this time using the Internet to spread its message.

June-October 1995: Heaven’s Gate members spend several months living in a compound in a remote New Mexico town.

October 1996: After living in several north San Diego County homes the year before, the cult moves into a mansion in Rancho Santa Fe.

March 26, 1997: The bodies of 39 cult members are discovered in the mansion.

May 1997: The husband of one of the dead cult members kills himself at an Encinitas motel. A member for 20 years, he had left the group in 1994. He had expressed regret that he was not with them when they died. A second former cult member who attempted death with him is revived.

February 1998: The second former cult member’s body is found in a tent in the Arizona desert, nine months after he survived the earlier suicide attempt.

Nov. 22, 1999: A county auction of Heaven’s Gate belongings raises $32,707. Some of the money pays for the auction; the rest goes to family members to help cover burial costs. Two former members who had tied up the estate in probate court eventually reach a settlement with the county and pay $2,000 for items of most significance to the cult.

By the time you read this, we suspect that the human bodies we were wearing have been found and that a flurry of fragmented reports have begun to hit the wire services. For those who want to know the facts, the following statement has been issued.

HEAVEN'S GATE® "Away Team" Returns to Level Above Human in Distant Space

RANCHO SANTO FE, CA -- By the time you receive this, we'll be gone -- several dozen of us. We came from the Level Above Human in distant space and we have now exited the bodies that we were wearing for our earthly task, to return to the world from whence we came -- task completed. The distant space we refer to is what your religious literature would call the Kingdom of Heaven or the Kingdom of God.

We came for the purpose of offering a doorway to the Kingdom of God at the end of this civilization, the end of this age, the end of this millenium. We came from that Level, that time, that space, and entered this one. And in so doing, we had to enter human bodies -- which we did, for the most part, in the mid-seventies. Now it was time for us to leave those bodies (vehicles) -- bodies that we borrowed for the time we were here (by previous arrangement) for this specific task. The task was not only to bring in information about that Evolutionary Kingdom Level Above Human, but to give us the experience of working against the forces of what the human evolutionary level, at this time, has become. And while it was a good learning experience for us, it also gave all who ever received knowledge from that Kingdom an opportunity to recognize us and this information, and to even move out of the human level and into the Next Level or the Next Evolutionary Level, the "Kingdom of Heaven," the Kingdom of God.

The Kingdom of God, the Level Above Human, is a physical world, where they inhabit physical bodies. However, those bodies are merely containers, suits of clothes -- the true identity (of the individual) is the soul or mind/spirit residing in that "vehicle." The body is merely a tool for that individual's use -- when it wears out, he is issued a new one.

No one can enter the Kingdom of Heaven by trying to live a good life in this world, and then, thinking that when this world's life takes your body, you get to "go to heaven." The only time that Next Kingdom can be entered is when there is a Member or Members of that Kingdom who have come into the human kingdom, incarnated as we have, offering clarification of that information. To get into a discarnate condition just by disconnecting from your body doesn't mean that you are going to go anywhere, whether that loss of body is "premature" or not. When we step out of our "vehicle," we have to know where and who our "tour guide" (our Shepherd) is -- for what's next. We have to know we can connect with a Shepherd whom we trust, and that we have decided, "If that Shepherd will have me, I want to continue to be a sheep -- and I will do everything I can to please that Shepherd."

Periodically, that Next Level sends in a Representative -- a Shepherd -- and offers a graduation class, offers life, out of this evolutionary level into that Next Evolutionary Level, and we are at the end of one of those times. TI and DO were the names used by the Representatives of that Next Level, the Kingdom of God, sent to the "surface" of this planet to serve as our Teachers/"Midwives" at this time.

During a brief window of time, some may wish to follow us. If they do, it will not be easy. The requirement is to not only believe who the Representatives are, but, to do as they and we did. You must leave everything of your humanness behind. This includes the ultimate sacrifice and demonstration of faith -- that is, the shedding of your human body. If you should choose to do this, logistically it is preferred that you make this exit somewhere in the area of the West or Southwest of the United States -- but if this is not possible -- it is not required. You must call on the name of TI and DO to assist you. In so doing, you will engage a communication of sorts, alerting a spacecraft to your location where you will be picked up after shedding your vehicle, and taken to another world -- by members of the Kingdom of Heaven.

Only a Member of the Next Level can give you Life -- can take you out of "Death" -- but it requires that you disconnect, separate, from the last element holding you to the human kingdom.

We know what we're saying -- we know it requires a "leap of faith." But it's deliberate -- designed for those who would rather take that leap than stay in this world.

We suggest that anyone serious about considering this go into their most quiet place and ask, scream, with all of their being, directing their asking to the Highest Source they can imagine (beyond Earth's atmosphere), to give them guidance. Only those "chosen" by that Next Kingdom will know that this is right for them, and will be given the courage required to act.

Cardiff Kook Dinosaur Attack - Behind the Scenes from www.KORDUROY.tv on Vimeo.

In the early morning hours a knock was heard at the door of Korduroy.tv headquarters. On the doorstep was a note and a hard drive containing video of the Pterodactyl dinosaur installation on the Cardiff Kook. We don’t know why the artist(s) chose us to share the making of this masterpiece with the world, perhaps it is because of our coverage of the last great Kook Attackor the nice video Cy did in 8 hours to try and save the local Yoga Yurt.

One thing is for certain, the installation is an amazing display of artistry, teamwork and coordination that must have taken months of planning. The following video tells a tale of fun, glory and the cruel pecking order of life in a Utopian community. Enjoy.

A $3,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person who put duct tape around the snouts and legs of two goats at Fallbrook High School, leading to the death of one goat.

The incident, which occurred about 5 a.m. on June 15, may have been a "senior prank" gone wrong, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The vandal -- described as 5-foot-11, 180 pounds -- fled when he was discovered by a security guard. The guard removed the duct tape from the goats, but one goat had already died.

The goats, kept in a livestock pen, were part of an agricultural project. A necropsy determined that the goat suffocated.

Solana Beach Co. Auctioning Rare Pistol Owned by Howard Hughes, Used in 'Hell’s Angels'

Listing Format:  Auction
Current price : $2,500.00
# of bids: 0
Closes: 82 Days, 17 Hours
Starts: 9/1/2011 1:00:00 PM
Ends: 9/17/2011 1:00:00 PM

Craig Gottlieb Militaria Auctions of Solana Beach is looking at some serious loot when it auctions on Sept. 1 a rare German Luger pistol once owned by aviation pioneer Howard Hughes.

The iconic handgun was used in the 1930 epic World War I film Hell’s Angels, which Hughes directed. Gottlieb places a conservative estimate of $50,000 on the gun, and notes that a pistol owned by gangster Al Capone recently sold for almost $110,000 at auction in London. He is no stranger to exotic collectibles, and he recently obtained the desk set that was used by Adolf Hitler to sign the Munich Agreement in 1938, and this set will also be up for auction in September.

The gun was used in the final scene of the Hollywood blockbuster that introduced actress Jean Harlow to the silver screen. It was one of the most expensive “talkies” ever produced. It was also notable for introducing the phrase “excuse me while I put on something more comfortable” into the American lexicon.

The history of the gun is also unique. It was once owned by Hell’s Angels screenwriter Joseph March, who received the Luger from Hughes as a gift. The written provenance that comes with the Luger is thus excellent. Included with this famous gun is a letter from the screenwriter’s family, including the family member who sold it to a collector in 1992. But, the most compelling provenance is the movie itself.

“When you play back the scene frame-by-frame, you can easily make out the unique features of this rare model Luger,” says Gottlieb, noting the slender barrel, unique grip safety and the shape of the other features, which are unique to this rare pistol. “If Hughes had used a regular Luger, we would never know if this was really the same gun.”

The letter that accompanies the Luger states that Hughes gave it to March in the 1930s “as a token of appreciation following the film.”

"This is an outstanding example of the 1900 "scoop toggle" American Eagle Luger.  This very rare gun was used as a prop in the movie Hell's Angels, a movie produced in 1930, and directed by Howard Hughes.  Originally obtained from the estate of the screen-writer who wrote the script, the pistol was given to him by Howard Hughes.  The pistol was used in the most compelling scene in the movie, when Roy shoots his brother Monte Rutledge to save the lives of British soldiers.  The cry by Monty that "He wants to live" as he beats down the door of their holding cell, the Germans waiting for the shot outside, is the most famous part of the film.  In the DVD which accompanies this gun, when you play the scene frame-by-frame, you can very easily make out the slender barrel, scooped-toggle, grip safety, and the "DWM" manufacture on the top of the gun.  This, in combination with the letter from the screen-writer's son, provided after his death, locks this gun into the scene.  This firearm is in outstanding condition, and is a $6000 to $7000 gun by itself, made more valuable by the association with this pivotal Howard Hughes film."

OK, Fried Kool-Aid Balls at Chicken Charlie's, Del Mar Fair, Is Breaking News Across The USA...

It's a little hard to ignore, maybe a slow news day, but the damn fried kool-aid balls apparently are more than just a new San Diego County Fair hit. They are getting traction across the nation with social network bizz and news coverage.

The balls look like red donut holes, and while some say they also taste rather like donut holes, other fair attendees seem to like the new junk food. One customer of fried Kool-Aid told Sign on San Diego, "It starts off tart and tangy, and then finishes really sweet... I love this stuff."

Boghosian is no stranger to fried candy concoctions. He claims to have invented more than 100 deep-fried treats to serve up at county fairs. In previous years he has created fried fare such as fried Klondike Bars, fried Pop Tarts, and fried Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies.

The tangy red dough balls have really taken off, doing much better than Chicken Charlie's previous new products. Over the fair's opening weekend, the food stall quickly went through its first 150 pounds of Kool-Aid powder and 1,500 pounds of flour - though the rest of the ingredients are top secret.

Boghosian, who weighs about 300 pounds, said he has sold 100,000 fried Klondike bars last year and 2 million fried Oreo cookies over the past decade. But the $5.95 fried Kool-Aid is quickly becoming his top seller.

"It's been huge," Boghosian said. "People are loving it."

Deep-fried Kool-Aid in its finished form is like a pastry, first sweet and then tangy, according to delighted tasters.  The recipe is top secret but it involves a whole lot of Kool-Aid powder, flour, powdered sugar and hot oil.

"It's really good, different, but a little more like a doughnut than Kool-Aid," Angelyn Lucia told the North Caroline Times after polishing off a serving of deep-fried cherry Kool-Aid.

Another taste described it as a "New Orleans  Hushpuppy with Kool-Aid flavor.

Boghosian's fried fare has gained him a cult following as well as appearances on the Travel Channel and CNN. He said that his latest invention was a runaway success, outselling his other deep-fried items two to one.

"That's because it tastes so darn good," Boghosian said.

Fried foods of the sort served up at county and state fairs get the thumbs-down not just from obesity specialists but also cardiologists. The American Heart Association urges people to limit their intake of deep-fried foods, noting that they contain saturated and trans fats that can raise the risk for heart disease by increasing levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol.

ARE 'THEY' OUT THERE AND IF SO DID THEY TAKE THEIR UFO'S AROUND CARLSBAD, CALIF. ON MAY 9, 2011 AND APRIL 13, 2010?

This video purports to show UFO's across the lagoon at Carlsbad. It follows an April 2010 video of similar views shown below along with the MUFON witness statements. (Following that is a listing of Carlsbad UFO sightings from 2000 to 2009, according to MUFON.)

However...Judge for yourself.

-- Dr. Ango Zango for Ah-Ha Banana Nation.

The same configuration also appeared in April, 2011.

In the evening of 4/6/10 at about 8:45 PM, I was in the kitchen of my home in Carlsbad chatting with my brother. I had just spent the entire day visiting Legoland with out of town relatives.

It was a very beautiful, warm day that day, so the night sky was very clear and we decided to draw the blinds open, and slide open the patio door to let some fresh night air in.

We were just enjoying our beautiful open view of Carlsbad from our backyard which faces Palomar Airport. It is quite commonplace to see planes landing and taking off, even at that time of night.

window

, which also faces the backyard. My brother suddenly asks me if I've ever seen a UFO.

I thought it was a bit strange of him to ask because we were chatting about a whole different topic at the time. As he was asking me this, I saw him gazing out towards the kitchenwindow, and so I looked out the same way.

What I saw were 2 diamond-shaped objects very brightly lit, a very golden yellow color.

My first thought was they were 2 airplanes in a holding pattern waiting to land at Palomar Airport.

I initially dismissed my brother's sighting of the 2 objects as airplanes and I quickly looked away. However, I quickly looked back since he was still staring out there all this time, and I took an even closer look to see that the objects did NOT look like planes after all.

In fact, in addition to not really looking like airplanes, they were quite large in comparison to the real airplanes in the air at the same time. They were just suspended in air and not really moving anywhere at all. This I found very strange.

As my brother and I were coming to realize that we were actually looking at a UFO, the objects instantly disappeared from view!

formation

, sort of like a parallelogram (slanted squareformation).

By this time, I called out to my husband who was in our bedroom and also to my daughter who was in another room, to come outside to the backyard to view this strangely beautiful sight.

lawnlight

show which was out of this world, nothing like any of us has ever seen. I felt a bit scared, very excited and in awe, all at the same time.

I did not want to keep my eyes away from the light formationin the sky, for fear it would disappear once again.

This UFO light show went on for about 2 minutes. The objects did not move anywhere, again they were merely suspended in the sky, glowing and staying in their slanted square formation.

I still don't even know exactly how far away they were from us. I believe one of the "diamond" shaped objects faded a bit and then appeared again brightly during this time frame.

At the end of the light show, the lights simply "turned off" and we no longer could see the objects. It was as if someone had just turned off the light switch. They had literally disappeared!

picture

shot of the 4 diamond-shaped objects on my IPhone camera, but not at a good close up view.

My brother however did capture about 30 seconds of it on video with his camera.

Unfortunately, it also was not a close up view.

I'm looking forward to another light show again soon! It sure would be nice to know what exactly we were looking at!

2nd Report (April 6, 2010).

I arrived home from work at approximately 8:45 PM, and had started to change clothing and shoes when at approximately 8:50 PM, I heard my wife and her brother speaking quite loudly about what they were seeing in the sky. I quickly went into my backyard and clearly saw what they were talking about.

My home is located in Carlsbad, CA and our backyard has a clear, unrestricted view from southwest to northeast. I was startled at first, then settled down and basically enjoyed the view. Here is what I saw:

Initially there were 4 objects, very bright in the low sky. Judging the distance was difficult, but my assumption was that these objects were north/northwest in the direction of Camp Pendleton.

The objects were extremely bright, mostly "gold" or "bright amber" in color. The objects were stacked two over two and seemed to be in a pretty tight formation, but there definitely appeared to be some spacing between them.

The objects seemed to be moving very slowly or hardly at all - it may have been that they seemed to be moving only because of the brightness of the light.

After about two minutes, two of the four objects "disappeared" and the other two remained. The shape of each of the items seemed to be cone-like, or maybe to be more precise they were condensed versions of a "bell."

The remaining items stayed in place for a short time and then they also disappeared in a flash.

One of the things that I found striking was the fact that there was a good deal of air traffic at this time from the very nearby Palomar Airport. A number of small planes stayed in the air while I was observing these golden objects.

Rather than continuing to land as would normally be the case, it appeared that pilots were staying in the air.

In addition, I could see several helicopters also hovering. This is highly unusual, since Palomar is a very small airport and gets a minimum of takeoffs and landings.

My wife, brother-in-law, stepdaughter, and myself spent the next hour or so talking about what we had seen and to a large extent we all had pretty much the same reactions and observations.

At first I must admit I was somewhat scared, but overall that feeling subsided and turned to curiosity. I would have run inside the house to get a camera, but didn't want to miss a moment of this awesome sight.

I have always had a very, very skeptical view of the notion of UFOs and the people who report their existence, but after this experience I might be changed forever on the topic.

REALLY??? Mad Mike Hughes to Jump Grand Canyon in Home-Made Rocket Ship. REALLY???

(Editor's Note: Dr. Ango Zango, Ah-Ha Banana Nation's roving correspondent, reported this week Mad Mike Hughes promised to hold a victory parade along Paseo Delicias in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. should he survive and complete the Grand Canyon daredevil  feat.)

Mad Mike Hughes to Jump Grand Canyon in Home-Made Rocket Ship!
”World’s Most Famous Limo Driver” to complete what Evil Knievel failed to do in 1974

GRAND CANYON, AZ  --  “Mad” Mike Hughes, an aspiring, amateur daredevil, plans to jump his home-made rocket ship over the Grand Canyon on Labor Day, September 5, 2011.  The stunt will accomplish what Evil Knievel failed to do during his attempted jump of the Grand Canyon in 1974.  Since 2007, Mike has been building the X-2 SkyLimo, a “super-heated, steam-powered” one-passenger rocket in the backyard of his Redlands, California home.

“I’ve been working on the SkyLimo for quite a while and now I’m happy to report that all system are go!” says Mike.  “The world has waited 36 years to see someone complete this jump and I’m gonna make it happen.  There’s been numerous technical, financial and governmental obstacles placed in my way, but we’ve got past each and every one.  It’s time to get to the launch pad and blast-off on this JOURNEY OF A LIFETIME!”

Mike hand-built the rocket and received guidance from an impressive group of rocket engineers, including a consultation by Bob Truax who was the original designer of Evil Kneivel’s famous X-2 SkyCycle.  “There is no doubt, technically, that this rocket will make the jump,” says Mike.  “The only question is whether I’ll be able to hang on and what type of condition I’ll be in on the other side of that canyon!”

Mike Hughes has a rich and interesting resume that makes him uniquely positioned to complete this historic feat:

 - Guiness Book of World Records Holder – Longest Jump in a Limousine (2002)

 - NASCAR Insider – Crew Chief (Craftman Series), Top Sheet Metal Fabricator (Busch Series), Racing Innovator (performed first vinyl wrap in NASCAR and developed other advancements)

 - Outspoken “Lightning Rod” – California gubernatorial candidate in 2010 – Ran on the platform of “radicalizing” the government, which includes the pardon of Charles Manson and requiring registered lobbyists to wear pink suits.

 - Controversial Author – “What Does a Limo Driver Know about NASCAR”? – Expose’ on the secret, inner workings of NASCAR, including what really killed Dale Earnhardt, why NASCAR sabotages racial minority drivers and the bi-sexually of a past NASCAR champion.

 - International Playboy (retired) – Dated actresses and models, including Playmate of the Year.

 - National Motorcycle Ice Racing Champion (1979)

- Hospital Regular – Back broken twice, 14 other broken bones

- Professional Limo Driver – To pay the bills.

Mike encourages all Americans to strive for excellence in their lives.  “Our country was built on men and women who gave us challenging ideas, inspired us with intellectual insight and motivated us to achieve success.  That’s what makes our country great!  Get out of your box and do something fantastic for us all!”

Oddly Even: Pawnshop supports Ranch Art Guild, Solana Beach pop-culture mice, Del Mar roller derby...

PAWNBROKERS THAT SUPPORT THE VISUAL ARTS AT RANCHO SANTA FE

 Really? Fake is real?

The Rancho Santa Fe Pawnshop -- located at 907 6th Ave. and E Street, San Diego -- issued a press release Tuesday, Jan. 25, supporting the arts at Rancho Santa Fe. To wit:

"The luxury pawnbrokers of Ranch Santa Fe Pawn shop are lovers of all things crafted by master artisans. That is why they are so exceptional at valuing extraordinary timepieces and fine jewelry, and why we can consistently offer the largest collateral cash loans in San Diego County. While our pawnbrokers don’t offer loans on painting, they do love the visual arts and encourage you to support the Rancho Santa Fe Art Guild."

The purveryors of pawn went on to post details about the Art Guild taken from the society's web site. Which is cool.

"The Rancho Santa Fe Art Guild was formed in 1993 to 1) support and encourage visual artists in our community and county; 2) provide funds for art education and outreach efforts such as scholarships for art majors, programs in schools, art programs, art teaching, education to the public on the benefits of art education and collecting; 3) provide talks on how important the arts are to our lives and society; 4) host field trips to view collections and artist’s studios; and 5) support a gallery with art for sale for the purpose of supporting guild activities and outreach programs.

The majority of our Artist Members are residents of Rancho Santa Fe (51%) and the surrounding area. The primary Guild functions and events are the hanging and promoting new art exhibits in our main gallery and several satellite galleries every 2 months. To learn more about the guild and check on future exhibits, please visit: http://ranchosantafeartguild.org/"

January 2011

 Happy New Year

January  4th - Solar Eclipse  - The Planet is arriving in the Mayan tradition, that speaks to

the end of a 14 billion evolutionary cycle, which ushers in a revolutionary consciousness.

We begin with Jupiter and Uranus conjunct in Pisces. The last time we experienced this

combination  was back to 1934. This is a time known for  the great repression. We won’t see

the like of this combination until 2093. On this day, the Sun and Moon are going to have a

square with the old symbol of time, Saturn. Culture is going to be on trial by the cheesiest

political inertia that occurs. This is a time for revelations with agreements that you have

made and see if the lay of the land warrants a change  with past agreements?  “To thine own

self be true” for there is no other place to be! Which answers the question, “Or not to be?”

January  19th - The Full Moon - Commitment to what you want, is how you, become who

you are? Feelings are a special expression of the thinking and of the mind.  The Cancer

Moon is highlighting your emotions and is the time to contact your inner thoughts.  Use the

power and flow of a vibrationally wave, which is hitting the universe now and for some time

to come. The evolutionary process is occurring with the Universe per se. We are ripples of

light fading into space. I recognize that now is the only point of reference to see and

experience the wholeality  of totality as a singularity.  Let the inner shadow of your light,

shine bright for the night sky of your thoughts.  January 25th, Saturn is stationed and goes

retrograde, and once again we are asked the question, are you fulfilling your destiny?

The Twelve Signs of the Zodiac

Planets in Transit

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19) Some of you are feeling the major revolution that is delivered

with Pluto in Capricorn, which is visiting for the first time in 248 years. If you were born

December 22, through December 31, then you are feeling the most significant change in your life

and will continue until April or so until 2012. Some of you have already been experiencing the

change, and the rest is starting to feel the shift. Remember, it's not a bad thing, it's about growth

and change. There is nothing to be afraid of when it comes to being alive. Capricorn you can be

one of the most amazing individuals. Understand, that you are hard on yourself. Stop

sabotaging yourself and start to be your best friend. Let go of the past and stay in the present to

receive the gift that is available and all you have to do is stop doing. Listen with you inner-most

voice and don’t be afraid to listen nor to act on what you hear? The planet Mars is in Capricorn

if you were born between Jan. 8 to 15 then you have Mars providing you the energy you want

and need. Avoid difficult people, including yourself? It's around January 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th,

there is a shift of energy at the beginning of this New Year with attitude, hence live life with

appreciation and gratitude for the best results.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb 18) If you were born Feb. 14 to Feb. 22 then Neptune is going to throw

up a smoke screen of illusion. It would be best to wait on any important decisions that need a

time, when life provides you clarity and not confusion. The rest of you Aquarians may want to

pay attention to your work environment. Change hat has taken place, can still have the

opportunity to shift and change again. Keep in mind that you are the one who chooses to do the

things you commit yourself to do? A good month to organize any areas of your life, that needs a

Feng  a treatment. All choices come down to yes, and no, or you can change it to yes, and know,

or know that one choice is in harmony with what is and the other choice is going to create

challenges for you. However, you always, for the most part, accomplish all that you seek. If not

then you adapt and move forward anyway. To be or to see is the same as to do what your

essence guides you to do? Ideas are going to inspire you this month, and careful evaluations for

what you want in a mate is different as what you do on a date? Meditation would be helpful!

Contemplation would be good. Silence is the voice of the unknown, known!

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20) This is an amazing time to be from the waters of Pisces. If you were

born between March 12th through March 20th, this is an exciting time for you, especially, from

January 1st to January 15th. You can experience expansion in any part of your life. You can

expect the unexpected as life, changes in a moment and that moment is always now and present

waiting to be revealed as the greatest gift ever! Change is the heart beat of the universe and with

the flow and ebb of creation itself, you are in a rare sweet spot for growth, perhaps not as you

wish it to be, but as it needs to be! As Hamlet says, “nothing is neither good nor bad, thinking

makes it so”. This is one of the more profound ideas that may bring you a new way of viewing

your words and the words you choose to be utter, create the world you live! Next year in the

beginning of 2012, you will have Neptune entering your sign for the first time in your life. This

too shall bring you new powers of intuition and awareness. However, learn now, if you haven’t

done so, that you are the source of the God head you represent. Live your life the way you want

and don’t let anyone, including me tell you what you already know?

ARIES (March 21-April 19) This coming year is a time for expansion and fortune to smile on

your intent, but the key for t this year is to put it out there. Go for what you want and let life

unfold to your destiny. New beginnings are marked has a distinct possibility for Venus is in

Sagittarius and romance is highlighted for your consideration. Relationships are being

supported with an accent from Saturn being a supportive element. Career issues are on the top

of your agenda, and it would be wise to focus on work for the best results for this year you can

make a positive change. This is time for paying attention to your intuition and make sure you

listen or what a waste for you not to take advantage of this support for your greater awareness.

You are entering in the next few years one of the more interesting seven years you will have

experienced up until this time in your life. By meditating and use your insight with intent, you

can accomplish all that you set  out to do. Look at the structure in your patterns and tweak here

or there, and you see, that the smaller the adjustment the greater the change. Work is an area

that could use some revision.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20) Shed the clique’s and be your genuine self. Work and health is

areas that may need your attention, if you're eating well, and paying attention to your exercise

patterns pay off in great dividends. Romance is highlighted as Venus spends some time with

your eighth house of sex, and money. Passion can erupt as if a thundered and lightening where

in a discussion. O, what a difference a life can make. Opportunity for education may be pulling

on hyoid as you consider taking a plunge into academia. Maybe not all of you, but certainly if

you were born April 2 through the 8th, there is greater chance that you also, take a trip or at

least plan on one. Relationships are going to be expansive and informative. Receive inspiration,

as appreciation for the hard work that  transforms light into awareness. The subconscious has a

way of bringing into the fore front all that has to be revealed, but first you must reveal what is

hidden. This is not an easy task for to do so you have to let go of pride, which is the corner stone

of your sticking to your guns in a stubborn manner. You can't grow from that point of view.

Flexibility is the key for your success, and that is not money, but what you choose to do every

day?

GEMINI (May 21-June 21) Relationships, transformation, travel, career and romance are on the

menu for you this month, as the new year starts out with a major focus on what do you want?

How are you going to get what you want? The idea of understanding that it's not what you do,

as its more important to do something. You may meet someone who you want to date, but is not

available due to the fact. However, they are in a relationship already. Everything that happens

to you is for your own good. Be patient, grasshopper, because there is more in heaven and earth

than is dreamt in a life time. To your own awareness be true as sure as the day is here for you to

explore. Some of you are going to get that job you have hoped for and some of you are going to

change jobs for a better group of people to work with. Whatever happens it's always for your

growth. Some of you are going to have a close relative pass away this year. A focus on doing is

going to bring you happiness, which brings you health, is a good approach for this new cycle in

life, that you find yourself in. Keep your extremes to a minimum and  attempting to control

anything is futile, and not in your best interest.

CANCER (June 22-July 22) This month there is a focus on your home. Saturn in Libra is visiting

your fourth house. Therefore, the focus is on an organization of your home getting your life

back into an order. For some of you, it has been a difficult time when it comes to marriage and

partnerships. The whole idea of relationships is in a major overhaul, and it has taken you by

surprise, or you saw it coming either way you have to deal with it. If you have not gone back to

school or have thought about taking  classes, I encourage you, because you are being supported.

The mythological lessons that are being presented to you allow you to discover your true

identity, and you are blessed indeed. Even though sometimes you approach problems sideways

you have a gift for providing what is necessary when it comes to what is important. Family

relationships' people this is what life is about, but you have always known that truth.   Jupiter

and the planet you’re on us park and jump to one another in Pisces allow your intuition and

inspiration to bring you valuable information.  This is the beginning of you starting to pay

attention to your career choices foreign occupation.   It is important to have a way of making a

living where you rely on yourself.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)   As the year begins Saturn is moving through your third house of

communication, and you must pay attention to the limits and the possibilities that limits

provide.  Venus is moving into your fifth house of romance if you are in a relationship than this

is a time for intimacy and growth for that relationship. If you’re single and available than this as

an opportunity to meet that special someone who could really bring you a new view of the

world.  Health and work are two areas that you must pay attention to you must have already

the past several years experience to change with your health and your work situation. This is

because Pluto is in your sixth house and will be there for some time. Therefore, it is imperative

that you start to pay attention to the more important aspects of being alive your health and your

occupation.  After many years, you are finally coming to the realization how powerful your

ability to project can be, but it’s not always for your benefit. It is better to see the universe as it is

then to pretend that it is something that it is not, which include yourself. You are going through

a period of growth and adjustment concerning your ego and the importance of how to use it

and when to let it go!

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)  The new year brings you Saturn in your second house of money

property and resources. It is a time to be cautious when it comes to expenditures and acquiring

things that you possibly do not need.  Your relationship to money and property is also an area

to examine. You may find some connections that could be revealing on how to approach your

years to come?   Someone from the past may visit you, and it will be a pleasant re-acquaintance

with someone you have been out of touch with. Circumstances concerning family members

may come forward, and you may find yourself helping and supporting those who are in need.

There is a positive expansion concerning relationships partnerships and potential marriage if

you’re not already in a relationship and this is a great time to solidify a spiritual connection,

which is deep within.  Letting go of judgments that are just opinions with top hats would be in

your best interest.  This year you will find an expansion when it comes to income, but it might

not arrive when you expect it.  However, what is important is that it arrives. There could be

some expenses this coming year that you could not have anticipated, hence,  save your money

now.  Diet exercise and good sleep are fundamental to a happy life.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23)  September of 2010 is when Saturn entered your first house in around

30 years.  Ever since this has happened there’s been a major focus on your relationships in your

life personal and career wise. If you love what you do this is a great opportunity for you to

grow and solidify your situation. If you’re dissatisfied with your lot in life then you must make

a change or your suffering will continue. The choice is simple you can either grow towards the

light, or you can avoid the light it’s your choice, choose wisely. Communication with family

member's brothers relatives in general are highlighted for you as the new year brings you

challenges and opportunities. The area of work, and health are going to have an impact on your

life and there is a major focus concerning these two areas.  The support that you’re going to get

this year is Jupiter moving into your seventh house of marriage and partnerships. Even though

you may be struggling in a relationship the outcome is most positive to resolve whatever issues

you think to exist within the fact they probably cannot exist and that is a wonderful new

awareness that brings joy and contentment to the heart. Your life is what you make it so why

would  you live the life whom you would want instead of living a life whom you regret.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21)  The New Year  brings,  a lot of information from the subconscious

to remind you to pay attention for illumination.  Take time to reevaluate the past, so you can

decide what you would like to pursue?  Communication, is the key, whether it’s to write a book

or to attend  school and take classes. Perhaps,  to pursue poetry, that you never wrote?  Even

though you have been dating  over the last several years, you find yourself finding someone

who you want to develop a long-term relationship. Often your relationships have nothing to do

with your partner, but it has more to do with your insecurity. If you can learn to distinguish the

difference between what you want versus how you sabotage yourself, then you have something

of great value. To find your destiny in the future it would be wise to let go of the past and stay

present and live as if it were your future, now, which it is. You’re being supported with

Capricorn. Use this time, to reevaluate the order that you bring to  your life.  Some of you are

moving this year, so be aware of any long-term commitments that you want to

make? Transformation is an unusual home, and in some ways it fulfills you, you need to express

the essence of what you work with.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)  Decision very interesting time for Sagittarius because most

of your planets are below the surface of your chart the only major planet above the horizon is

Saturn. This is demonstrating to you the importance of how your external world is created by

your internal condition.  Friendships and relationships are strongly highlighted as well if family

members are going to have an impact on what you’re going to experience this year.  The area of

money is  of concern at this time and may well carry into several years into the future. All the

more reason to be cautious with your expenditures and pay attention to what you truly need

versus what you just want to buy? Moving this year is going to happen for many Sagittarius,

and several others are going to consider changing their careers or professions. Change is a

component for Sagittarius as relationships and in overhaul for where you have been where you

want to go and where you are taking place for your own good. Some of you will move towards

the ocean or near Lake but water is going to be an important factor for most Sagittarius this

year. This has to do with the fact that Neptune will be leaving Aquarius and going into Pisces in

the coming years and this is going to have an impact on you especially concerning your

intuition. It will be getting more sensitive, and you must learn to listen to  acquire the benefits

that come with such an awareness.

Recent Rains Beg the Question: Hodgee, the Friendly Lake Hodges Monster: Fact or Fiction?

(Editor's Note: Large-scale rain events such as December's La Nina bring strange side effects to the Del Dios Gorge. Namely, more sightings of the alleged Lake Hodges, or Hodgee, Monster, a distant cousin of the more well-known Loch Ness Monster.)

Go down Hernandez Hideaway on rural Lake Drive at Del Dios and people will swear up and down the tavern's long wooden bar that Hodgee, the friendly Lake Hodges monster, really, truly - well, almost definitely exists."The Lake Hodges Hodgee monster is kind of like the Loch Ness monster," said Stanley Smith, a long-time Del Dios resident.

Smith, a cowboy poet and man about town, lives near the top of the hill overlooking the scenic 1,234-acre city of San Diego reservoir which was completed in 1918.

"Several people are saying they think they've seen it," Smith continued. "Sometimes, when you look at the lake it looks like something is moving the water, some currents or something. The fact is it is a mystery."

Although Smith was quick to add that "maybe the people were a little liquored up," he wasn't the only one around the venerable country-western venue to say a Hodgee monster was more than mere rural myth or product of some overactive imaginations.

"Not a day goes by they don't talk about the Hodgee monster," said Mickey Basulka, a seven-year Del Dios resident and country store patron.

The bartender who identified himself only as Mikey V., added: "They even used to have a Hodgee sandwich here when we were open for breakfast in the morning. They say there's a giant catfish, or something, out there."

Hodgee's fame has spread near and quite far.

In fact, a mysterious Webmaster purporting to be a representative of the Lake Hodges Scientific Research Center ( a seemingly fictional organization) has created a detailed Internet site giving a seven-page history of the monster dating back to 7000 B.C. as well as extensive documentation of the monster including photographs of it said to be taken in 1932, 1941 and 1958.

The www.hodgee.com site also contains a mixture of fact and possible fantasy that may appear virtually indistinguishable to the casual observer. Stories from local newspapers are mixed with updates on items such as a Lake Hodges Interpretative Center (still in the planning stages) as well as the fabled Lake Hodges Scientific Research Center itself that features a picture of a very earnest scientist with some kind of scientific measuring-type equipment.

"The LHSRC is a not-for-profit research organization that is dedicated to learning more about the unexplained phenomena related to Lake Hodges," the site says. "In particular, we are focused on the so-called 'Lake Hodges Monster,' known locally as Hodgee."

Hodgee.com says

The monster dates back to a "river creature" of Indian lore that was said to be in the San Dieguito River that was dammed and used to create the Lake Hodges Reservoir. "Researchers (in 1929) found no conclusive evidence of any sort although one assistant did report seeing a '...lizard-like...head...' protruding from the surface...'

This prompts an internal memo in Scripps (UCSD Institute of Oceanography) to look at (it,)" the site said. The site includes a "timeline" noting that police found piers destroyed without footprints, buoy cameras were used to record some kind of creature, underwater trip-wires are set to capture Hodgee and even, in 1956 thousands of pounds of highly toxic chemicals were used to kill all the fish in the lake and restock it.

"An anonymous statement written on city of San Diego letterhead stated that officials were attempting to kill any creature in the lake ---- including the monster," the site says.

Actually, officials did stage an early 1956 fish kill at the reservoir but news accounts at the time said the effort was made to kill invasive carp and allow the lake to be re-stocked with bass. A final picture on the hodgee.com Web site dated 1999 showed two men with mechanical equipment at the lake.

"LSHRC researchers using sophisticated equipment trying to detect Hodgee," the caption reads. The Hodgee mystery, however, extends to the Hodgee Web site. The site is registered to Corey Krell of Apex. N.C. He has an unlisted telephone number and did not respond to numerous e-mail requests for an interview.

Krell is unknown to the residents of Del Dios although Pete Ayotte, manager of Hernandez Hideaway, another Del Dios institution down the road from the country store, said he had seen the Web site.

"It's pretty neat, interesting," Ayotte said. Sitting at Hernandez Hideaway's classy bar, Dave Bark's ears perked up when he heard mention of Hodgee, the Lake Hodges monster. A former denizen of Haight-Ashbury in the 1960s and Del Dios resident since 1969, Bark nodded knowingly at the image.

"We've had numerous sightings before, and rumors," Bark said. "Myself, I've many times seen ripples from his passing down the water. People say they've seen something in the water but I've never actually seen him."

But how did this Hodgee thing all start?

Bark recalled first hearing about Hodgee through the long-time Del Dios newsletter "As the Dam Drips," that he said was "a one-sheet thing and all it was rumors and innuendoes."

The newsletter, which no longer circulates, was passed out in the 1970s around the unincorporated community along the north edge of the lake. Morgan A. "Matt" Tidwell, retired Lake Hodges reservoir keeper, also mentioned the newslettter as the originator of the Hodgee story.

After "As the Dam Drips" broke the Hodgee story sometime in the mid-to-late 1970s, a television reporter went out to the dam and spoke with him about Hodgee's authenticity, Tidwell said.

Then, the real Hodgee magic ensued. "It all started at the Del Dios Store when someone put out a joke newspaper," said Tidwell, reservoir keeper since 1972 through his retirement in 1984. "It had a spoof monster that sure looked like a Loch Ness monster east of the freeway and it was the Hodgee monster.

"A reporter from Channel 8 News came up on the top of the dam," Tidwell continued. "We had a diesel engine pumping air into the lake. These bubbles were coming up. She asked me what this was and I said this is where Hodgee, the monster, sleeps.

"Another reporter from the station came out to do the story and asked me what the monster ate," Tidwell said. "I told him the ranchers were a little upset because he ate a steer, or heifer, once in a while up there and then came back for a bale of hay for a salad."

So hatched a legend, seemingly

Hodgee became so popular that, as Mickey V. said, a breakfast sandwich was named after it. A friend of Tidwell's who was an Escondido ceramics instructor made a clay sculpture of Hodgee that Tidwell still keeps.

In fact, Tidwell brought the Hodgee replica back to the scene of the myth, the Del Dios Store last week, for a photo opportunity. What's more, the legend grew. Several print articles in the 1980s referred to Tidwell's earlier confirmation of the Hodgee legend on television.

"First there were tell-tale bubbles in the water, as if some creature were surviving in the depths of the lake," North County Panorama said in January, 1985.

"Then came the tales of mysterious disappearances of cattle and bales of hay being snatched from passing farm trucks. Tidwell confirmed everyone's unspoken fears with straight-faced accounts on local television newscasts of a Loch Ness-style monster paddling around Lake Hodges."

Standing tall near the reservoir he once managed with Hodgee, the clay monster replica statue in tow, Tidwell again stood straight faced before dissolving into a sly smile.

"It was just a bunch of spoof," Tidwell said. "I don't know if anybody would believe something like that but it's a good story."

It's an especially good story when facts aren't allowed to get in the way, Del Dios residents said last week.

Walking her beagle Samson near the store shortly after Tidwell's departure, Linda Hull, a newcomer to Del Dios, faithfully repeated what locals had told her of Hodgee, the friendly Lake Hodges monster.

"I've heard of it and I would love to know more," Hull said. "They say that there's a Loch Ness monster there that lives in the bottom of the lake. "I believe them," Hull said.

"But, then again, I believe in the tooth fairy." Perhaps speaking for many in Del Dios and North County, Hull added: "With everything else going on in the world these days, why not believe in Hodgee?"

Del Mar Fairgrounds Ghostbusters Going Public with Results This Month

Something funny is suspected going around the Del Mar Fairgrounds. And it's not the ridiculous attempt by the cities of Del Mar and Solana Beach to buy the place. Nor is it the highly questionable tenure of Barry Nussbaum characterized by perks and...But we digress.

The damn place may be haunted. Or that's where some of your 22nd District Agricultural Association efforts are going to this month. They agreed to allow some local Ghostbusters to investigate whether "The truth is out there," as they used to say on 'X-Files'.

David Walters of South Coast Paranormal -- "Putting the 'normal' back in paranormal," according to his web site -- said he plans to reveal in the next two weeks the outcome of a July investigation at the hallowed hall. The project is gratis, presumably minus the publicity for the group.

Reports of strange sights and sounds well past the witching hour have haunted the facility that Bing Crosby and Jimmy Durante helped build for decades.

"I worked in the Grandstand for over six years and there were many times strange things would happen," said a former seasonal worker. "Lights flickering, doors opening and closing (and locking), cold spots, our names being called etc. I never actually saw a figure but just about everything else. Nothing menacing, a trickster at worst. I'm kinda glad to know other people have seen things there too."

Why the six-month delay? Hours and hours of videotape the "team" had to sift through to determine what in heaven's name is going on round there, according to Fairgrounds officials.

To view some raw footage from July follow this link:

 http://www.scparanormal.com/evidence/delmar/shadow2.mp4

"This was caught at our first investigation of the Del Mar Fairgrounds/Grandstand investigation in the Pub on the ground level. We can not figure out what the cause of this shadow could have been." Walters said.

Walters, and fellow Ghostbusters, conducted three sorties into the race track grandstand's -- ooh, scary -- 2nd and 5th floors. A well-trafficked night club once haunted the upper space and a pub now occupies the lower floor.

Fairground officials have not commented on what they planned to do should the facility be deemed haunted.

Dead birds falling from the Rancho Santa Fe skies? Nope, Audubon just counts live ones...

(Photo: Sandhill Cranes, locals were on the lookout for a few more winter visitors on Jan. 3)

Following this weekend's annual bird count at Chino Farm and surrounding Rancho Santa Fe areas, the San Diego Chapter of the Audubon Society is making its list and checking it more than twice.

About 70 Rancho Santa Fe bird counters on Jan. 3 spread across a 15-mile radius from Torrey Pines and Cardiff to Lake Hodges and Miramar Reservoir. The 2009 count revealed 193 species among 36,573 birds counted.

Volunteers across the country, and the county, gather together from Christmas through January to count birds on behalf of the Audubon Society. The practice dates to the late 1800s.

The local count dates to 1953. It occurs in six parts of the county — San Diego, Anza-Borrego, Lake Henshaw, Rancho Santa Fe, Oceanside and Escondido — on different days during the holidays. Volunteers work inside the 15-mile-diameter circle.

Early stats for this season's count showed 219 species in San Diego County, the second highest total since 1953.

“At the time of the founding of the Audubon Society, there was a tradition to go out and shoot birds on Christmas Day,” said Phil Unitt, curator of the Department of Birds and Mammals at the San Diego Natural History Museum. “The Audubon Society was trying to draw public attention to the carnage. So the ideas was to go out and count birds instead of shooting them.”

(Photo: Worm-eating warblers are rare around San Diego County, but local bird watchers expected to see a few last weekend.)

Species doing the best these days are urban adapters, said Unitt. Birds sensitive to habitat fragmentation are dwindling. The San Diego circle set a record low this season for sightings of the California quail at two birds. In 1980, 202 quails were counted.

Christmas Bird Count

Preliminary results for the 2010 San Diego Circle:

"Today's total of 219 species on the San Diego Christmas bird count, if it holds, is the second highest in the count's 58-year history, exceeded only by 222 species in 1969. The Swainson's Hawk photographed today by Matt Brady and Oscar Johnson makes 360 species ever recorded on the San Diego CBC (4 obviously misidentified species reported long ago excluded). The Thick-billed Kingbird was recorded on one previous count, at Glen Abbey Cemetery in 1966. The Broad-billed Hummingbird was recorded 4 times previously, in 1979, 1980, 1982, and 1985. Thanks again to everyone for a great count! " Posted by Phil Unitt on SDBirds, 12/19/10

Best Chinese food near Solana Beach on Christmas day?

Posted by: Juldie on Dec 20, 10 at 6:25pm

Hello. We are going to arriving in Solana Beach on Christmas day. As Jewish people do on Christmas day, we eat chinese food and go to a movie. I have never been to this area before and figure that just as back east, the only restaurants open, besides restaurants to eat "Christmas Dinner " will be chinese restaurants. What is your favorite chinese restaurant?

In a retirement area like Del Mar, a lot of people eat out on Christmas so there will be other things open.

But why break your Xmas eve tradition when there is a great spot like CHINA CAFE waiting for you?

Now, as for a good movie....how about THE FIGHTER?

We Jews love to go to a movie on Christmas Eve. I like Yogi Beara. He was a great catcher and a great motion picture.
Those Chinese people, I love them and their food!

How do other countries avoid inflation despite raising taxes to cover universal healthcare? Can Obama do this? Posted by admin on July 14th, 2010 and filed under I am not making ANY assumption here, but I have been told that though coverage is much better in these countries, other countries such as Canada have rediculously high taxes, often as much as 50% of an individual’s income to cover the cost of their universal healthcare system.

Now let’s just say for example you had a job and you boss paid you, you used that money to buy something, the person you bought it from bought something, and that person just randomly bought something from your boss, then your boss later used that money to pay you again at another time.

On the surface it would look like you had received more/different money than before, but in actuality it is the same money that has just been circulated again, and unless wealth to account for that money then there has been no increase/change. It is the same with taxes

A country could call itself raising taxes to "pay for" a program, but raising taxes will not make there just be more money money in the country’s infastructure or increas it’s net worth. This is what leads to the type of inflation that has been plaguing the United States for decades.

questions:

1) Do other countries actually have higher taxes to cover the cost of their universal system, if not how is the cost covered, and if so how do they evade inflation while raising taxes? Or do they?
2) Obama has stated that he wants to institute a universal healthcare system, but he won’t change the current system because some Americans who are covered currently don’t want to give up their coverage. With that said, is the United States at as great a risk if any of having taxes as high as those other countries (if they are really that high) due to out-of control spending and other cost-related issues?

  1. These other countries do not have better health care. Where did you get that Idea? didn’t your family teach you that there is no free lunch?

When in the history did congress cut the cost of anything? Their idea of cutting is slowing the growth of the cost. they have yet to fulfill that promise.

  1. July 14th, 2010 at 7:32 am Two issues. When you factor in all types of tax, Canadians don’t actually pay significantly more taxes than Americans. And since universal health coverage actually delivers better care for less cost (look up statistics, not single horror stories about some guy in some socialist country who died – or look at the VA or Medicare in the US), no, there would not be a higher risk of inflation under a universal coverage system. Under our CURRENT system, the US spends the most of any rich country on health care as a percentage of national wealth. This is not economically smart, it’s not efficient, and so OUR CURRENT SYSTEM (not the reform plans) risks causing inflation.

July 14th, 2010 at 8:27 am Higher prices are not the cause of inflation, they are an effect. Inflation is caused by increasing the money supply in relation to GDP, with an over supply.

  1. A nation like the U.S. doesn’t have too raise taxes. Treasury "creates" securities (notes, bonds, T bills) out of nothing and sells them to the Fed. The Fed prints paper (dollars), that are worthless, have no value. The Fed purchases the securities Treasury has created out of nothing, with dollars the Fed created out of nothing.
  2. When the government spends or puts the liquidity (worthless money) into the economy it suddenly has the same value as all other U.S. currency. It gained it’s value by making your (and everyone else’s) money, worth less. It transforms a portion of the value of your money, to the newly printed money. Called "printing the debt"
  3. That is how the government raises taxes on unsuspecting Americans, rich and poor.

  5. July 14th, 2010 at 9:04 am The whole thing is nonsensical. Suppose it casts $1.3 trillion. That really looks like this. $1,300,000,000,000.00 there are 306,323,600 people in the U. S. I’ll help with the math. 1,300,000,000,000 divided by 306,323,600 equals $4243.87 per person. Not family. For a family of four thats $16975.00. That is for ten years. You only get covered for five years but you pay for ten. Take what you earn and subtract.

enjoy hat I wish to relate to you will smack of unethical practice but I want you to understand something. It is only an outsider to the banking world who finds the internal politics of the banking world aberrational. The world of private banking especially is fraught with huge rewards for those who occupy certain offices and oversee certain portfolios. You should have begun by now to put together the general direction of what I propose. There US$23,995,720.00 deposited, I alone have the deposit details and they will release the deposit to no one unless I instruct them to do so. This bank has spent great amounts of money trying to track this man's family; they have investigated for months and have found no family, the investigation has come to an end and Since the original owner listed no next of kin in his bio-data form, my proposition is this; I am prepared to place you in a position to instruct my Bank to release the deposit to you as the closest beneficiary.

Which is the best private bank in india to open an NRI account in?

Citi Bank and ICICI are good, Kotak Mahindra too is not all that bad, but have you considered a Nationalised Bank? They are pretty impressive and for a NRI they would bend over backwards. The problem with a private bank is their charges and turn around. You are but a bunch of numbers for them and at the end of it all by the time you complete your term with them you will find that the value you paid is far too high a price for what you get in return! With all that HSBC and Citi would be really great partners for NRI accounts and they do treat their customers with a lot of professionalism. Hope this helps in some way!

Yep, I know. That’s why I deal in cash. It saves me a ton of money and contributes less to the Federal Reserve.
  7. Terry Z Says:
    It’s a house of cards. Don’t sneeze.
  8. quizzard123 Says:
Do you realize that you need to read a book or two on economics?
Ignoring the conspiracy theory about the Fed (it’s wrong, but I’m not going to bat my head against that particular fallacy), your understanding of a deficit, and who the money goes to is correct.
If i borrow money from you, would you not want to be paid back? Would you not want to be paid interest? Does that make you a ‘ruthless banker’? No, it makes you a businessman, and you’d be an idiot to do it any other way.
No, abolishing the Federal Reserve would NOT change that.
  9. JesusZoidberg Saves Says:
You should ask me if I care.
  10. Bozema Says:
We know. And the financial debacle was created by electing idiots, not by having a Federal Reserve system. And I own my own stuff.
  11. Edwina W Says:
i did know that BUT I think now that barry has been spending like crazy other people are beginning to realize that fact. People hear so much about the national debt of multiple digits that they don’t realize we don’ t have to be in debt!
  12. Dave H Says:
Wait, so your solution to the deficit owed by the government to the Federal Reserve (which is a disingenuous way to characterise the relationship by the way) is to abolish the Federal Reserve, thus defaulting on the deficit?
Even if the deficit was transferred to other institutions, who’d actually take it at it’s market value? No financial institution in the world would take on the risk if the Federal Reserve was abolished merely to redistribute the deficit. Unless of course you consider the central banks of other countries, who’d be far less willing to denominate such a large deficit in dollar (or greenbacks, or beaver pelts or whatever you’d have the country trading in).
Alternatively you’d have the Federal Reserve abolished and the deficit written-off? Thus increasing either the interest rate the government would pay on loans from outside institutions, or increasing inflation when the government is inevitably obliged to print their made-up currency.
Also, what happens to the American foreign deficit?

  13. Pfo Says:
Uh, a deficit is when you go over your budget.
If you abolish the Fed, whatever entity replaces them will be exposed to the same corruption that the Fed is. You just don’t trust the Fed, which is fine, but let’s not pretend that turning control of our money to some other entity is an end all be all solution.

How much is the minimum amount for a Japanese to open a private bank account in Dubai?

Minimum or maintaining bank balance depends really on the bank you would like to open and the type of banking services you would like to have (i.e. checking, savings, investments, time deposits, etc) rather than according to nationality (japanese, indians, pakistanis, etc.)

HSBC requires a maintaining balance of Dhs. 1000 while ME bank is Dhs. 2500. Dubai bank requires 0 balance and the same with Barclays. ABN-AMRO and Standard Chartered I think requires Dhs. 1000 maintaining balance.

Better – check their websites and find first hand.

Goodluck !

By from the Desk of Dr. Ango Zango

The "Wealth" blog at http://www.wealthsummitevent.com/ is a strange and perplexing journey into the topic of, well, wealth, sorta'. You want lists of the wealthiest soccer clubs in the world? Try "Wealth." Want to know the minimum amount of money a Japanese citizen needs to open a bank account in Dubai? Yes, "Wealth," indeed.

This struck a chord with that infamous pseudo-Nigerian seeker of wealth, yours -- you have received his "urgent" pleas for financial consideration, no doubt -- the fabulous Dr. Ango Zango.

The good doctor contacted us -- for money, naturally -- but also agreed to comb through the archives of "Wealth" to bring Ah-Ha Banana Nation, from time to time, the best of the best of...well, "Wealth."

We call this exercise in futility: "From the Desk of Dr. Ango Zango."

What is the wealthiest neighborhood in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia?

Like I don’t mean just rich, but like the filthiest richest residential neighborhood in Kuala Lumpur. Some have suggested Bukit Damansara and Sri Petaling. But I need the wealthiest neighborhood.

I keep hearing about Bangsar, but none of you mentioned Bangsar. Where is Bangsar on the list? Or was I misinformed.

Bukit Tunku, Country Heights..I guess.

Why are the wealthiest people in Congress, Democrats?

Four out of the five wealthiest people in Congress are Democrats.

Herb Kohl (D-Wis) $219,098,029

Jane Harman (D-Calif) $168,651,649

John Kerry (D-Mass) $165,741,511

Darrell Issa (R-Calif) $135,862,098

Jay Rockefeller (D-WVa) $78,150,023

In fact these dems are so wealthy that their combined wealth is more than all the republicans listed in the top 25 wealthiest members combined.

Why are democrats so wealthy?

Because they are smart. They know the key to success in America. Why are the Republicans so afraid of them and of letting hard working Americans rise above? Why do the Republicans want more Americans to fall into poverty? That is what is happening with the destruction of the middle class. Very few rise above. That’s a fact.

  1. ballerb j Says:
do you have something against people in america doing well?
are you some sort of commie subversive?
why do republicans as a party favor the rich more? and favor policies that clearly are destroying the middle class and lower classes of america?
  2. Tokoloshemani Says:
Republicans could be rich too, if they didn’t spend all their money on Nascar, guns, beer and Playboy.
  3. charlie Says:
  • they know how to fleece the system.
  • In what city in India do the country’s very wealthiest citizens live?

I should define what I mean by "wealthiest" in this context. I mean, the top 1% in terms of wealth. Thanks so much for your help with my research question!!

Difficult to be precise. Mumbai has the Ambani Bros who are the richest Indians, living in India. Kumar Mangalam Birla splits time between Mumbai and Kolkatta. Delhi has the DLF Chief Mr Singh. Bangalore boasts of Azim Premji, Vijay Mallya, G.M.Rao and others. There are other Indian cities like Ahmedabad and Hyderabad where some of the wealthiest in the land live. Since Mumbai is the headquarters for most of the corporates, you can vote for Mumbai.

What is the wealthiest residential district of Paris itself, and which is it’s poshest suburb?

Where in and around Paris would you find it’s oldest money? Which area when mentioned, imediately would make a native Parisian think of enormous wealth....I agree with the first two answers. Other wealthy arrondissements: the 7th, the 8th… as a general rule, those closes to the geographic center of the city are the wealthiest (the 16th being an obvious exception), and suburbs west and south of Paris tend to be posher than those to the north and east.

16eme arrondissement of Paris itself. Or Neuilly, Auteuil or Passy, three contiguous suburbs. All rich and well-established.
  2.             2. Cabal Says:
As said above, Auteuil, Neuilly , Passy, outside Paris and 16th arrondissement in Paris. 8th arrondissement would be more wealthy companies and offices.
  3.             3. chanteur68 Says:
18th, 19th, 20th arrondissements: where you’ll find some very "wealthy" people. Just mentioning these districts and people have a certain connotation immediately.

Encinitas officials say yes, but the proof probably is in the construction, which they say will begin in 2011.

Enter dune top, the official unofficial Cardiff board society. "Encinitas didn't get its long-awaited skatepark," said Ah-Ha blogger supreme, soon to be University of Alabama English instructor, Eric Parker, "but the alternative 'gravel boarding park' is pretty f-ing cool."

Parker added: "Check out the video made by the amazing video guru, (Mr. Z)."

The recently announced skatepark plans call for a street plaza-type park with a separate 10-foot bowl and flow section as well as viewing stands. Estimated cost: $9.5 million to $12 million.

Hey, you want to be hip? Be yourself. Nothing says I am who I am and I don't care like being who you want to be.  It's called confidence. Nothing is more attractive, more of a turn-on than pure confidence.

I saw the ugliest damn woman in my life walking down Cedros Boulevard in Solana Beach's Design District today. She was dog ugly walking a dog and, you know what, the dog was dog ugly, too. She was wearing a black shawl, the dog, and the lady was wearing a baggy pair of parachute pants, black ninja ripstop nylon up the butt.

But the lady didn't care. She strut that butt. She sashayed this way. And you know something, the more I watched as she strode down the street like a colossus of funk, the better looking she became. By the time, she hit the intersection of mind and body, she was Athena, Venus, the goddess of ten million desires.

Fashion, my young friends, comes and goes. I've got a Nieman's jacket I had to break out the other day when I worked as an extra on "Terriers," a new television show being... (more)

This just in from De Luz, in the far northern nether reaches of San Diego County. A banana plantation grows there.

Jerry Andersen, of San Clemente by way of Hawaii, has a one acre banana tree plantation producing plant material for sale to nurseries and collectors.

And it’s very hard to find.

A past president of the Palm Society of Southern California, Andersen found the perfect microclimate for propagating banana trees at very, very rural De Luz. It’s miles and miles from nowhere.

J.D. Andersen Nursery that also has eight acres of rare and exotic fruit trees and palms overlooking Ross Lake. The hilltop nursery is about 20 miles northwest of Fallbrook and 30 miles southwest of Temecula.

To get there from anywhere, the hardy seeker of the Haa-Haa, dwarf Brazilian, Manzano, and 57 other varieties of banana must take winding, dirt roads that turn muddy in the winter rain and crack dry in summer.

“Believe it or not, we get people coming out here,” said Andersen with a laugh as... (more)
