Up-and-coming burger spot Smashburger opens second San Diego location at Del Mar Plaza

One of America's fastest growing new gourmet hamburger chains, Smashburger, opened in grand fashion on Monday, Aug. 23 at Del Mar Plaza, Camino Del Mar and 15th Street.

It's the second area location following a La Jolla restaurant at 1000 Prospect Ave. A third location is scheduled to open at Mission Valley next month.

The Denver-based hamburger outlet bills itself as "every city's favorite place for burgers" and features a family-friendly menu of 100 percent angus beef creations in the $5 to $7 range accompanied by a variety of complementary, and healthy menu items ranging from new age fries and fried pickles and veggies, to chicken sandwiches, salads and Haagen-Dazs milk shakes and malts, as well as bottled beer and wine.

Consumer Capital Partners funded the concept with $15 million in private equity. The combination of franchises and company-owned stores are at about 70 locations nationwide with about 20 more coming on board in the next few months.
